Carly Linthicum was an outstanding three-sport athlete during her four years at Episcopal, graduating with the James H. Fannon, Jr. Family Award for Athletic Worth. On the lacrosse field, Carly earned All-ISL honors during her freshman, junior, and senior years and All-State recognition as a freshman and senior. As a freshman, she was the second-leading scorer on the state championship team, scoring five goals in the state semifinal against St. Catherine’s and four goals in the state championship game against Collegiate. In her senior year, she led the Maroon to the ISL A Division league championship. Her standout senior year earned her Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention and All-America honors.

Carly’s athleticism extended to soccer, where she was a four-year letter winner and served as captain at center back during her junior and senior years. As a senior, she anchored a defense that defeated St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School 2-1 to capture the inaugural Seminary Hill Cup, leading the team to its first-ever ISL A Division semifinal appearance. She also played varsity basketball during her freshman and sophomore years.

Highlighting her impact on the program, Jen Fitzpatrick noted, “Carly was both relentless and tenacious in the pursuit of her goals, both on and off the field and court. She was the rare ferocious competitor who both commanded respect and led with humility, grace, and kindness. Beyond the accolades (of which there are many), it is for these things that her impact not only on the teams on which she played but on the culture of girls' athletics at Episcopal cannot be understated.”

Following graduation, Carly continued her lacrosse career at Vanderbilt University, where she became a starter during her junior year. That season, she ranked second on the team in assists and third in points. As a senior, she led the Commodores with 63 points on 49 goals and 14 assists, marking the fourth-highest single-season goal total in school history as of 2019, her 2013 goal tally still stands as the sixth-highest overall at Vanderbilt. Her dominant collegiate career concluded with Second-Team Regional All-American, First-Team All-Conference, and SEC Academic Honor Roll selections.
