Alex Henry is one of the most accomplished wrestlers in Episcopal High School history. Under the direction of longtime head coach Steve Castle, Alex established himself as a dominant force, securing three IAC championships and back-to-back VISAA heavyweight state titles. In 2011, he was named the VISAA Outstanding Wrestler and earned a selection to the Washington Post All-Met First Team. On the national stage, Alex made history by placing fourth at the prestigious Beast of the East Tournament as an eighth seed, pinning the seventh, sixth, and fifth seeds in consecutive matches. He went on to place fourth at the National Prep Tournament, setting a School record, and became the first Maroon to compete in the USA Wrestling Junior National Championships, finishing in the top 12. Alex graduated holding EHS career records for total wins (127), wins by fall (80), and single-season wins (48).
In addition to his wrestling career, Alex was the captain of the varsity football team. As a dominant lineman who also lined up as a short-yardage tailback, he received All-IAC and Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention honors. He was also honored with the 2010 Moncure Award as the varsity football team’s most valuable player.
Following his graduation, Alex attended Franklin & Marshall College, where he was a four-year Division I letterman and the team’s starting heavyweight. He anchored the Diplomats’ lineup, concluding his collegiate career with consecutive winning records during his junior and senior seasons.
